Fertility Monitor
fertility monitor is The Clearblue® Easy Fertility Monitor check out some of the frequently asked questions.
- How accurate is the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor?
The Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor has been shown in laboratory testing to be 99% accurate in detecting the LH surge in cycles in which an LH surge had also been identified by a reference method. Most women will have 1-5 days advanced notice of their Peak Fertility, during which time High Fertility will be displayed.
- I've been using basal body temperature and home ovulation tests. Does the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor replace these?
The basal body temperature method only tells you that you're in the fertile zone after ovulation has occurred. This is too late to take advantage of all your fertile days, including those that come before you ovulate. The advantage of the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor is that, unlike the basal body temperature method, it predicts ovulation before it happens. The Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor does so by not only detecting the LH surge which precedes ovulation by 24-36 hours, thus identifying your 2 most Peak Fertility days of each cycle, but also gives you notice of additional days of High Fertility. The Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor also counts your days for you, telling you which days to test, interpreting the results, and displaying your fertility levels every day to give you a personalized understanding of your cycle pattern.
- How effective will the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor be for me?
The Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor can detect Peak Fertility in cycles of 21 to 42 days in length. If you have intercourse during High and Peak Fertility it can help you maximize your chances of conceiving your baby. It is important, however, to remember that there are no products available that can guarantee success in achieving pregnancy.
- Will oral contraceptives affect the result?
After using the pill (or emergency contraception), your cycle can be irregular and may take some time to stabilize. You may wish to wait until you have had at least two natural menstrual cycles in a row each lasting 21-42 days before using the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor.
- What conditions or medication could interfere with my test result?
Always read the manufacturers instructions for any medication you are taking before using the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. Most medications (e.g. simple pain killers and cold remedies) should not affect the way the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor works. However, certain medical conditions and medications can adversely affect the performance of the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. Refer to the instruction booklet provided with the Monitor for further information. If you still have questions, please speak to your doctor.
Please Note: We recommend that you consult your doctor if you are taking any medication before you try to conceive.
Fertility monitors are devices used to measure a woman‚ the daily level of fertility so that she can take advantage of these days in order to conceive a child. Most fertility monitors are sold commercially at affordable prices and are often very easy to use. Fertility monitors are also a more convenient way to know a woman‚ the fertile periods compared to basal body temperature monitoring or charting.
There are three types of fertility monitors: urine-based, saliva-based, and skin-based monitors. Urine based monitors measure the levels of luteinizing hormone and estrogen on your urine. Although similar to urine test kits, the big difference is that these levels are compared to stored levels in the monitor and results are given as a comparison on your fertility level today compared to other days. Saliva-based monitor measure for increased levels of estrogen through increased electrolyte levels in saliva. High electrolyte levels often indicate fertile periods. Skin-based monitors, on the other hand, measure the changes in the electrolyte content in sweat, which results from changes in reproductive hormone levels.
The two most popular fertility monitors used by women today are Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor and Ova Cue Fertility Monitor. Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor uses a stick to get a small sample of urine from your urine stream, which is capped and then placed in the monitor. The monitor will flash when the stick can be removed. Results are usually given as low, high, or peak. Intercourse or fertility treatments can then be timed accordingly. Clear Blue Easy monitors often give you 24 hours of advance notice for ovulation.
Ova Cue is a saliva-based monitor. Most women prefer this to the former because it is not messy and easy to do. The sensor is placed in the mouth for 3 seconds and afterwards the monitor gives you a reading. Ova Cue usually provides an advanced notice for ovulation of up to 7 days.
Fertility monitors are easy and reliable ways for a woman who is trying to get pregnant to determine her most fertile days. This allows the couple to time the moment of intercourse or fertility treatments at the most fertile window of the woman’s cycle. Fertility monitors are especially useful in women with irregular or unpredictable menstrual cycles and they are less messy to use than the traditional fertility awareness methods.
There are three kinds of fertility monitors out in the market today:
- Urine based monitors measure the levels of luteinizing hormone in the urine, store them, and compare them to subsequent readings. Clearblue fertility monitor is an example of a urine-based monitor.
- Saliva-based monitors measure electrolyte levels in your saliva which are indictors of an increase or decrease in estrogen levels. Examples of saliva-based monitors include MaybeMom and Fertile Focus
- Skin-based monitors like OvWatch measure the changes in electrolyte levels in sweat, which is indicative of a rise in estrogen and luteinizing hormone levels
The most popular fertility monitors used by women today are Clear Blue Easy fertility monitor and OvaCue fertility monitor, which is a saliva-based monitor. Clear Blue Easy fertility monitors have test sticks which are inserted into the unit and will give you a reading of Peak, Low, or High. This is best for women with fairly regular cycles. OvaCue uses a sensor which is placed in the mouth for three seconds. The best thing about OvaCue is that it can give an advanced notice of up to 5-7 days before ovulation.
The choice to use a fertility monitor or go with the traditional fertility awareness methods like the calendar method or the cervical mucus test depends on you. Often, women who lead active lifestyles prefer fertility monitors because they are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. They are also more reliable, especially when it comes to women with irregular periods.
